Fresh snowfall in Kashmir, MeT predicts more till March 3

Srinagar, Mar 01: A fresh snowfall was experienced at multiple places on Friday with the local Meteorological department forecasting the possibility of major snowfall from tonight.

The higher reaches of Kashmir especially the famous tourist destinations including Sonamarg and Gulmarg received fresh snowfall today.

“There is a forecast of heavy to very heavy snow particularly over higher reaches of north Kashmir, Central & South Kashmir & Pirpanjal range of Jammu division during 1st March night to 2nd March late night, Director MeT, Mukhtar Ahmad said.

The major weather activity is expected from tonight, the MeT said, adding the wet spell is expected to continue till March 03.

Earlier in a day, the authorities have also issued the avalanche warning.

Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority on Friday issued a medium-danger level avalanche warning for multiple districts in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Avalanche with Medium Danger Level is likely to occur above 2200 metres above sea level over Bandipora, Ganderbal, Kupwara, Baramulla, Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch, Ramban, Reasi districts in next 24 hours,” reads an advisory.

“People living in these (specified) areas are advised to take precautions and avoid venturing in the avalanche prone areas till further orders,” the advisory reads.
