Samba, Feb 07: Samba Police has arrested one notorious bovine smuggler with sharp-edged weapon and rescued eleven bovines and seized three vehicles including one Scorpio in three separate bovine smuggling attempts, a police spokesman said on Wednesday.
The police spokesman said that the attempts were thwarted during the intervening night of February 06 and 07 in the jurisdiction of Police Station Ghagwal.
A Police party of Police Station Ghagwal headed by SHO PS Ghagwal during vehicle checking duty at naka NHW Tapyal, signaled a Scorpio Car bearing registration number DL4CNB-5060 coming from Kathua side to stop for checking, police said.
“But the driver alongwith other unknown accused persons with common criminal intention to kill police personnel on naka duty accelerated the speed, hit with barricade and fled away from the naka point. The alert police naka party successfully chased the vehicle and intercepted it a few metres away from naka point. During checking of the vehicle, two bovines were found laden inside the Scorpio car which were being transported illegally without any permission, police said.
The notorious bovine smuggler identified as Jamat Ali @ Kalu S/o Siraj Din R/o Maralian, Miran Sahib tehsil RS Pura district Jammu has been arrested and one ‘toka’ has also been recovered from his possession, police said.
A case under FIR number 12/2024 under section 307/188 IPC, 11 PCA Act, 4/25 Arms Act, 3 PDPP Act has been registered at Police Station Ghagwal and investigation started, police said.
Similarly in another joint operation by Police Post Rajpura, Border Police Post Babber Nallah and Border Police Post Mawa, two more bovine smuggling bids have been foiled. The vehicle bearing regd. No. PB13BM-8857 loaded with five (05) bovines & vehicle bearing regd No. PB07BX-3253 loaded with four (04) bovines have been intercepted near Madwal & Madoon respectively and all the nine bovines have been rescued. However, the drivers of both the vehicles managed to escape from the spot taking advantage of the darkness, police said.
A case under FIR number 13/2024 U/S 188 IPC, 11 PCA Act and case FIR No.14/2024 U/S 188 IPC, 11 PCA Act have been registered at Police Station Ghagwal and investigation started, the statement reads.
