Srinagar, Dec 26: For the second straight day on Tuesday, the dense fog engulfed the Valley, leading to the low visibility while the night chill intensified amidst the forecast of dry weather till December 31.
According to the INS, the weatherman here has predicted more foggy mornings till December 31, saying that the prevalent weather conditions are expected to continue till there is any weather activity.
The minimum temperature, however, continued to settle below freezing point across the Valley.
Pahalgam, as per the data was once again the coldest place at minus 4.7°C.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir recorded a low of minus 3.0°C.
In Qazigund, the mercury settled at minus 3.0°C while Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 2.4°C.
Kupwara in north Kashmir has recorded a low of minus 3.5 °C while Kokernag recorded a minimum temperature of minus 2.0°C.
Pertinently, the 40-day harshest winter period, Chillai Kalan has commenced a few days ago and will end on Jan 31.
It is followed by a 20-day long Chillai-Khurd (small cold) that occurs between January 31 and February 19 and a 10-day long Chillai-Bachha (baby cold) which begins from February 20 to March 02.
