Srinagar, Nov 02: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday said to have arrested two drug peddlers in twin districts of South Kashmir’s Anantnag & Kulgam and recovered contraband/psychotropic substances from their possession.
A police party of PS Bijbehara at a checkpoint established at Hassanpora Crossing, intercepted a vehicle (Alto) bearing registration number JK02AM-9204 driven by Sajad Ahmad Bhat son of Ab Khaliq Bhat resident of Mooman Danjipora. During search, officers were able to recover 20 bottles of Codeine Phosphate from his possession. He has been arrested and the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized, a police spokesman said.
Meanwhile, police said in Kulgam, a specific information was received by Kulgam police regarding the presence of contraband substance in the house of Mubashir Ahmad Bhat son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat resident of Nillow.
Subsequently, a special team led by SHO PS Kulgam under the supervision of SP Hqrs Kulgam Ghulam Muhammad Bhat along with concerned Magistrate raided the spot and recovered 12 Kgs of Poppy Straw, a grinder and a digital weighing machine from the said residential house. The owner of the house was arrested and shifted to police station, police added.
Accordingly, police said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective locations and investigations have been initiated.
“We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” police said.
