Srinagar, Oct 29: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Ganderbal have busted women gang of pickpockets and recovered stolen cash from their possession.

In a statement, a police spokesman said that during the past few days, Police Station Kangan has been receiving inputs from different sources that a gang of a few notorious persons is roaming in the jurisdiction of PS Kangan & picking pockets of innocent people, especially in the area of Sub District Hospital Kangan.

He said, on the directions of SSP Ganderbal, a special Police team was constituted led by SHO PS Kangan under the supervision of SDPO Kangan.

Acting swiftly, a police team with the help of reliable sources set a trap at Kangan Market and three accused ladies (names withheld) were apprehended red-handed, while picking pocket of one innocent person namely Bashir Ahmed Mir son of Mangat Mir resident of Hariganiwan. Meanwhile, the trio tried to escape from the spot along with the stolen cash of RS/- 25000, but the police party arrested them tactfully. The stolen money was recovered & seized.

In this regard, a case FIR No. 118/2023 under relevant sections of law stands registered at PS Kangan and further investigation taken up, he said.

The General Public has appreciated and lauded Ganderbal Police for their swift action. Police requests the General public to immediately bring to notice any suspicious activities noticed about such incidents so that culprits can be nabbed effectively in future also, the spokesman added.
