Srinagar, Aug 18: Residents of Khrew area of Pulwama district are in up in arms about the tippers and trucks speeding and turning the area in what they say as “danger zone”.
“It was after a long time that our road was macadamised. We thought there would be comfort now but to our surprise, the speeding tippers and trucks have turned it as a danger zone with lurking danger of injury or loss to life,” a group of residents from Khrew said.
They said the trucks, tippers and others vehicle drivers go at a rapid speed, mostly during peaks hours and expressed apprehension about mishap as a consequence to it.
“There is not a single speed braker on this road after recent blacktopping and hundreds of tippers and trucks ply daily from and towards Cement Factories and other industrial establishment,” they said.
The locals have requested the administration to look into the issue and take remedial measure to ensure safety of people including children.
“With as fast as these drivers are going, there is every chance of a bigger mishap. Being the custodian of the people, the government is duty bound to ensure measures which will ensure safety of people,” they said, adding, “We as such request the authorities to place speed brakers as well as take other measures which would arrest the trend of speeding by the drivers and in turn ensure there is no mishap leading to any unfortunate injure or loss of lie. We’ve never had a problem this worse. It is been a day-to-day onslaught.” (GNS)
