113 drug peddlers held in Baramulla in 3 months: Police

Srinagar: Police arrested a drug peddler in Baramulla and recovered contraband substance from his possession, officials said on Saturday.

“Pertinently in last three (03) months, 113 drug peddlers have been arrested, 7 detained under PSA, 75 cases registered under NDPS Act and contraband worth crores have been recovered in Baramulla,” a police spokesperson said in a statement.

He said a police party at a checkpoint established at Batpora Kunzer intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully. During checking, 48 grams of Charas like substance was recovered from his possession, the spokesperson said. He has been identified as Firdous Ahmad Mir son of Gh Mohammad Mir resident of Gonipora Kunzer. “He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.”

It is pertinent to mention here that during the past three months of the current year, Police in Baramulla have registered 75 cases under NDPS Act and arrested 113 drug peddlers, detained 7 drug peddlers under PSA and recovered contraband substances including Brown Sugar, Charas and Poppy Straw and Cannabis Powder worth crores besides, also seized 11 vehicles, the spokesperson added.
