Srinagar, Jan 17: Police on Tuesday said that two militants were killed after they fired upon a joint team of police and army from a vehicle which was asked to be stopped near Court Complex in central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
“On specific input, the joint area domination party of Army & Police tried to stop one suspected vehicle, (militants) fired upon and in retaliation two (militants) were killed. Arms/ammunition recovered. Details shall follow,” police said in a tweet.
Later, police identified the duo as Arbaaz Mir and Shahid Sheikh of Pulwama and said that both were affiliated with Lashker-e-Toiba. “Both of them had earlier escaped from recent encounter,” police said.
There was a gunfight at Redbugh, Magam area of the central Kashmir district on January 15.
The gunfight ensued after hiding militants fired on a joint team of Police and army during a cordon-and-search-operation in the area. The CASO was launched amid specific information about the presence of the militants in the area, police had said. This was the first gunfight this year in Kashmir Valley.
