LeT Commander, Foreigner Among 4 Militants Killed In South Kashmir, Fidayeen Attack Foiled: ADGP Vijay Kumar

Srinagar, Nov 1: Lashker-e-Toiba commander was among four militants killed in twin encounters in south Kashmir’s Awantipora Pulwama and Bijbhera gunfights, police said.

“LeT Commander Mukhtar Bhat among the 3 killed (militants) in (Khandipora) Awantipora Pulwama,” ADGP Vijay Kumar said in a tweet. “As per source, he along with (foreign militant) was going for fidayeen attack on SFs camp,” he said, adding, “01 AK-74 rifle, 01 AK-56 rifle & 1 pistol has been recovered.” He said Awantipora Police and Army averted a major militant incident.

The gunfight at Khandipora, Awantipora started this evening after police and Army’s 55 RR launched a joint cordon-and-search operation in the area.

Earlier police said that one militant was killed in Bijbhera and his identity is being ascertained.

He police said a joint team of Police and army launched a cordon and search operation in Bijbhera and as joint team of forces zeroed towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired on the joint team, which was retaliated triggering off a gunfight.
