The student, Khushboo Manzoor daughter of Manzoor Ahmad of Katoo Bijbhera, died after falling off from terrace of hostel College where she was studying in Bangladesh.

“After great persuasions, parents of the girl have allowed medico-legal formalities after initially being reluctant and they agreed around 4 p.m.,” Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Dr Basharat Qayoom said.

“High Commission of India in Bangladesh is pursuing it. As soon as formalities are complete, further process will be carried out. They are on it and it would be done as quickly as possible,” he added.

Earlier in the morning, the Deputy Commissioner said that he remained in constant contact with concerned officials of Ministry of External Affairs as well as Indian High Commission in Bangladesh to bring the mortal remains of the student to her home.

Khushoo, a student of Khwaja Yunus Ali Medical College, one of the forerunners among private medical colleges in Bangladesh, fell from terrace of the hostel last evening and was taken to hospital where she remained in ICU and succumbed to the injuries this morning, family members of the student said.

The Deputy Commissioner said that Chief Secretary Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta, Principal Secretary Higher Education, resident Commissioner and Divisional Commissioner Kashmir are personally monitoring the process at various levels to ensure mortal remains are brought back immediately.
