A blast occurred this morning in the Darul Aman area of PD7 in capital Kabul city, residents reported and officials confirmed.

Kabul security department spokesman Khalid Zadran said in a statement that a suicide bomber was intending to explode himself among the people who were gathered in front of the Russian embassy, but he was identified by security and targeted, which caused a blast.

The Russian foreign ministry reported that two Russian embassy workers in Kabul were among many others killed in the blast in Darul Aman. The death toll has reached 25, with many more injured, according to the news network Al Jazeera.

“Today at 11:00am, in front of the Russian embassy in Kabul, a suicide attacker wanted to blow himself up in the crowd but was targeted by the security forces before he reached the target and this caused a blast,” he said.

According to Zadran, one person was killed and 10 people were wounded in the blast. He said that the area is surrounded by security forces.

“I was sitting here and drinking tea, suddenly a blast occurred,” said a resident of Darulaman.
