Jammu, Sep 1; A 2-storey under-construction building at Janipur road opposite the offices of Sub -Registrars, Registration (JDA complex) collapsed in Jammu on Thursday. However, there was casualty reported, the officials said.
A police officer said that one Vishal Sharma of Roopnagar had some two weeks ago lifted a structure using hydraulic lifts (jacks) and made it 2-floor building. However the “unstable” building collapsed.
Deputy Commissioner Jammu said at around 6 PM, the building suddenly collapsed and its debris fell towards the roadside, thereby blocking it.
Immediately, the Deputy Commissioner said, the administration swung into action and started rescue operation. “Civil administration, Police, SDRF, Jammu municipal corporation, civil defense, corporators of w.no.35,36 & 37 reached there and coordinated rescue operations,” the DC said, adding, “Some electric polls on the road near the spot also collapsed, disrupting power supply.” After hectic rescue operation of more than 3 hours, the DC said, 90% debris has been cleared. The road is being opened shortly after calling off the rescue operation, the DC added.
