Srinagar, Jul 15: The minimum temperature continued to hover below normal at most places in Jammu and Kashmir following more rains in the last 24 hours, officials said on Friday. The weatherman has forecast improvement in the rainfall activity till July 19.

A meteorological department official here said that during last 24 hours till 0830 hours today, 2.6 mm of rainfall was recorded in Srinagar, 38.8 mm in Qazigund, 16.7 mm in Pahalgam, 0.6 mm in Kupwara, 30.8 mm in Kokernag, 1.6 mm in Gulmarg, 91.3 mm in Jammu, 34.8 mm in Banihal, 35.4 mm in Batote, 16.8 mm Katra and 34.0 mm in Bhaderwah.

Meanwhile, Srinagar recorded a low of 17.0°C against 17.3°C on the previous night. The temperature was 1.4°C ‘below’ normal during this time of the year for the summer capital, the MeT official said.

Qazigund recorded a low of 16.2°C against 16.5°C on the previous night. The temperature was 0.5°C below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir, he said.

In Pahalgam, the mercury settled at 13.3°C against 11.7°C on the previous night and it was 0.8°C above normal for the south Kashmir resort. Kokernag recorded a low of 15.2°C against 15.3°C last night and it was 0.8°C below normal for the place, he said.

World famous Gulmarg resort recorded a low of 10.6°C against 11.5°C and it was 1.2°C below normal for the place. Kupwara town saw a low of 15.1°C against 16.1°C on previous night and it was 1.5°C ‘below’ normal for the place during this time of the season, the official said.

Jammu recorded a low of 23.5°C against 23.1°C on the previous night. It was 1.75°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said. Banihal recorded a low of 16.4°C, Batote 15.9°C, Katra 22.0°C while Bhadarwah had a minimum of 16.9°C, the official said.

“From afternoon of July 15 to July 19, the weather is going to be largely better with lesser possibility of rain. Sun is expected to come out during these days,” the official said.
