Srinagar, July 4: Anti-Corruption Bureau on Monday trapped and arrests a Patwari for demanding Rs 50,000 and accepting Rs15,000 bribe for issuance of revenue extracts.

“Anti Corruption Bureau received a written complaint wherein it has been alleged that Gulzar Ahmad Makloo, Patwari, Halqa Zakura, Srinagar is demanding Rs. 50,000/- as bribe for issuance of revenue extracts of land in favour of the complainant,” ACB said in a statement .

“The complainant alleged that he approached the Patwari for issuance of revenue extracts of land and the Patwari asked him to pay Rs50,000 for the same. The deal was later settled for Rs 15,000 as first instalment for the same,” it said, adding, “On this the complainant approached Anti Corruption Bureau for taking legal action against the erring revenue official under relevant section of Law.”

As the contents of the complaint prima facie disclose commission of offence as defined under section 7 of the PC Act 1988, accordingly a case FIR No 26/2022 was registered at PS ACB Srinagar and investigation was started, it said.

“During the course of investigation a trap team constituted. The team laid a successful trap and caught red-handed the alleged accused namely Gulzar Ahmad Makloo, Patwari, Halqa Zakura, Srinagar while demanding and accepting bribe amount of Rs 15000/- from the complainant as an instalment,” it said, adding, “The bribe money was recovered from the possession of the accused in presence of independent witness.”

The accused was arrested on spot and legal formalities were carried on for further course of necessary action, the ACB said.

“Further investigation is going on”.
