Srinagar, June 1: Amid fresh rains in the last 24 hours, night temperature recorded a drop at most places in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.

A meteorological department official here said that Qazigund received 3.6 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours till 0830 hours today and recorded a low of 11.0°C, same as on the previous night. The temperature was 0.1°C below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir, he said.

Pahalgam, which had 9.8mm of rainfall during the time, recorded a minimum of 6.6°C against 7.8°C on the previous night. The temperature was 0.5°C above normal for the famous resort in south Kashmir during this time of the season, he said.

Kokernag had 1.2mm of rainfall and recorded a low of 9.9°C against 10.9°C on the previous night. It was 1.2°C below normal during this time of the season for the place in south Kashmir, the official said.

Gulmarg received 7.4 mm of rain during the time and recorded a low of 4.0°C against 5.6°C on the previous night, the official said. While 7.6°C is normal for the world famous skiing resort during this time of the season, the official said that the temperature was 3.6°C below normal for the place in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Kupwara town in north Kashmir also had 0.5 mm of rain during the time and recorded a low of 12.5°C against 12.3°C on the previous night. The temperature was 1.5°C above normal for the district, the official said.

Srinagar recorded a low of 13.8°C against 13.7°C on the previous night, he said. The temperature, he said, was above normal by 1.3°C during this time of the year for the summer capital.

Jammu recorded a low of 28.5°C against 23.5°C on the previous night, the official said. The temperature was 3.0°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said. Banihal recorded a low of 12.6°C, Batote recorded a low of 14.5°C while Bhadarwah recorded a minimum of 12.0°C, the official said.

The MeT department has forecast isolated to scattered light rain and thunderstorm in next 24 hours in J&K.
