Night Temp Rises Amid Forecast For Decrease In Rainfall Activity In J&K From Tomorrow

Srinagar, May 23: Amid forecast for decrease in rainfall activity, night temperatures recorded an increase in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.

A meteorological department official here said that Srinagar recorded a low of 12.6°C against 10.2°C on the previous night. The temperature, he said, is above normal by 0.9°C during this time of the year for the summer capital.

Qazigund recorded a low of 10.7°C against 7.6°C on the previous night. The temperature was 0.4°C above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir, he said.

Pahalgam recorded a minimum of 7.2°C against 4.3°C on the previous night. The temperature was 1.0°C above normal for the famous resort in south Kashmir during this time of the season, he said.

Kokernag recorded a low of 9.3°C against 7.8°C on the previous night. It was 0.8°C below normal during this time of the season for the place in south Kashmir, the official said.

Gulmarg recorded a low of 3.0°C against 2.6°C on the previous night, the official said. While 6.8°C is normal for the world famous skiing resort during this time of the season, the official said that the temperature was 3.8°C ‘below’ normal for the place in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a low of 9.5°C against 8.9°C on the previous night. The temperature was 0.9°C below normal for the district, the official told Global News Service.

Jammu recorded a low of 21.9°C against 23.2°C on the previous night, the official said. The temperature was 2.5°C ‘below’ normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said. Banihal recorded a low of 11.2°C, Batote 10.7°C and Bhadarwah 13.0°C, the official said.

Regarding rain in last 24 hours till 0830 hours today, he said, Srinagar received 1.2mm, Qazigund 1.6mm, Pahalgam 0.8mm, Kupwara 0.7mm, Kokernag 1.2mm, Gulmarg 5.3mm, Jammu 2.4mm, Banihal 1.4mm, Batote 7.0mm and Bhadarwah 0.6mm.

“Widespread moderate/ heavy rain/thunderstorm over Jammu and light to moderate over Kashmir division,” the official said about the forecast for next 24 hours.

Regarding subsequent 24 hours, he said. There will be decrease in rainfall activity from the afternoon of May 24.
