Police books 4 drug peddlers, thief under PSA in Kupwara

Kupara, April 16: Police in Kupwara have booked four drug peddlers and a “notorious thief” under public safety act (PSA) after obtaining necessary sanction from the authorities, officials said on Saturday.

According to a police spokesperson, those booked include Ashiq Hussain Mir alias “Ashiq Codeine” son of Ghulam Oaudir Mir of Muqam Shahwali Drugmulla, Majid Rehman Khan son of Abdul Rehman Khan of  Gundsnah Hyhama, Ghulma Nabi Lone “(Naba)” son of Ali Mohammad Lone of Sarbal Mohalla Guzriyal Kralpora and Atta Mohammad Khan alias Raja son of Amanullah Khan a resident of Halmatpora Check Kupwara.

“Accordingly, cases were registered at different Police stations and the accused were arrested,” the police spokesperson said, adding, “Subsequently, the cases were duly processed and after obtaining sanctions from the concerned authorities, the arrested drug peddlers were detained under Public Safety Act.”

Moreover, he said, a notorious thief namely Danish Manzoor Zargar alias “Chota Don” son of Manzoor Ahmad Zargar of  Tikker Kupwara was today detained under Public Safety Act by Kupwara Police after obtaining sanctions from the concerned authorities for his “unrelenting criminal acts of burglary and theft. He was involved in various cases of burglary and theft in the district”.

“Our consistent actions against anti-social elements should reassure the community members that we are making continuous efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of inimical elements.”
