Srinagar, Mar 11 : Authorities have suspended train services from Awantipora in Pulwama district to Anantnag amid “apprehensions of law and order problem” in wake of the killing of two militants in the vicinity yesterday. However, train services Banihal to Anantnag shall ply as usual.
The decision followed a letter by SSP railways to Inspector General of Police Kashmir, official sources said.
“In view of Friday and yesterdays incident at Naina Batpora in the jurisdiction of GRPP Bijbehara, the place of occurrence is adjacent to the railway track,” the letter reads, adding, “It is therefore requested the train service from Anantnag to Awantipora may kindly be suspended.”
However from Banihal to Anantnag and Awantipora to Baramulla, the trains services shall be as usual, the officials said. Two local militants of Lashker-e-Toiba were killed in the gunfight with joint team of police, army and CRPF in Naina Batpora on Thursday last.
