Soldier Shoots Himself Dead In Awantipora

Srinagar, March 7: A soldier ended life by shooting himself dead with his service rifle at a camp in Awantipora area of south Kashmir on Monday.

Official sources said at about 1550 hours, the soldier Mohit of army’s 34 RR, who was presently attached with Victor Force, committed suicide by using his personal weapon. They said that soon hearing firing sound, his colleagues rushed towards him and removed him to hospital where he was declared brought dead on arrival. It was not immediately known as to why the soldier took the extreme step, they added. A police official also confirmed the incident and said that further proceedings are underway.
