Srinagar, Feb 15: Anti-Corruption Bureau on Tuesday arrested a Junior Engineer in Rural Development Department while accepting a bribe of Rs 8000 in Kupwara district of north Kashmir, officials said.
A spokesperson of the anti-graft body in a statement said that a complaint alleging that Ghulam Hassan, Junior Engineer of Rural Development Department, Block Tregham, District Kupwara, was demanding bribe of rs 8000 for preparing bill for the work executed by complainant under MGNREGA.
“ The complainant alleged that the accused Junior Engineer (JE) was adopting delaying tactics and not preparing bill for the work executed by complainant under MGNREGA & 14th FC at village Kunanposhpura, Block Tregham, District Kupwara,” the spokespersons said, adding, “The Junior Engineer was demanding bribe of Rs 8000 from complainant as his commission.”
Upon receiving the instant complaint, he said, a prima facie offence under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 was found made out. Consequently, he said , a case (FIR No. 06/2022) was registered at police station ACB Baramulla.
Subsequently, he said, a trap team was constituted. “The trap team caught Ghulam Hassan Jr. Engineer of Rural Development Department (REW), Block Trehgam, District Kupwara red handed while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 8000 from the complainant,” he said, adding, “The JE was arrested and taken into custody by ACB Team.” The bribe money was also recovered from his possession in presence of independent witnesses, he added.
