Srinagar, Dec 29: Four Jash-e-Mohammad militants were killed two separate encounters with police and army in South Kashmir’s Kulgam and Anantnag districts on Wednesday.
Police announced in a tweet that three militants were killed in the brief gunfight in Mirhama Kulgam.
“02 more unidentified (militants) killed (Total 03). Search going on. Further details shall follow,” police in a tweet which followed in which it said one militant was killed.
“Two local militants and one Pakistani militant affiliated with JeM killed. Search still going on. 01 M4 and 02 AK 47 rifles recovered,” Police said. IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar called it as big success.
Earlier a joint team of Police and army launched a cordon and search operation in the area. As the joint team approached towards suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering off an encounter.
Meanwhile a policeman and an army soldier were injured in a gunfight in Dooru area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday.
A police official said the firefight erupted in Nowgam Shahabad, Dooru and ensued after militants fired upon a joint team of police, army’s 19 RR and 164 battalion CRPF while they were laying a cordon-and-search operation amid presence of the militants in the area.
“Encounter has started at Nowgam Shahabad, Dooru area of Anantnag. In the initial firing, 01 police personnel got injured and was shifted to hospital,” police said in a tweet. “Police & SFs are on the job. Further details shall follow.” Sources said that a soldier was also injured in the shootout.
