Christmas was celebrated with religious fervour in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday as devotees held special prayers for the good health and prosperity of the people in the valley.
The largest gathering in Kashmir was held at the Holy Family Catholic Church on Maulana Azad Road in the heart of Srinagar city, where the members of the Christian community, including women and children, assembled to celebrate the occasion and held special prayers.
Among the believers were a few tourists who joined the locals on the auspicious day and prayed for peace and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir, and the world over.
As part of the week long year ending celebrations, Directorate of Tourism, Kashmir organised grand Christmas festivals at tourist destinations of Gulmarg and Pahalgam
Many hotels and prominent buildings at Gulmarg were illuminated to give the place a festive look. A colourful musical programme was organized at the Golf Club which witnessed the participation of a large number of tourists and local visitors.
The year end celebrations which started yesterday would culminate with new year celebrations on 31st of this month. During these festivals, a large number of tourists from various parts of the country as well as locals participated.
