Srinagar Records Season’s Lowest Temperature, Pahalgam Remains Coldest Place In Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 17 (: The intense cold conditions continued unabated in Kashmir valley on Wednesday as the minimum temperature fell at most places with Srinagar recording minus 1.5°C, the coldest night so far this season.

The local meteorological department also issued a revised forecast, predicting dry weather to continue till November 23 and that there will be no “significant weather” till the month ending. Also minimum temperature is expected to stay below normal by minus 2-3°C across J&K except some pockets of Chenab Valley, an official of the MeT department said.

“Weather is most likely to remain dry till November 23. Light snow is likely over extreme North of Kashmir during night of November 24,” the official said, adding, “On an average minimum temperature will remain below normal by -2 to -3°C across J&K except some pockets of Chenab Valley.”

Overall, he said, there is no forecast of “any significant weather” till ending November.

With mercury settling at minus 1.5°C in the summer capital of J&K, the official said it was season’s lowest so far and below minus 2.6°C than the normal for this time of the year in the city.

Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, recorded a minimum temperature of minus 2.2°C against minus 1.8°C on the previous night, he said. It was minus 3.0°C below normal for the place, the official said.

Pahalgam, the famous resort in south Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 4.7°C, same as on previous night and it remained the coldest place across J&K.

Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 1.0°C against 0.2°C on the previous night, the official said.

Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 2.0°C against minus 2.3°C on the previous night, the official said.

Gulmarg, the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir, recorded a minimum of minus 2.0°C against minus 1.2°C on the previous night, the official said.

Leh recorded a low of minus 8.1°C against last night’s minus 8.6°C while mercury settled at minus 4.0°C against minus 3.4°C last night in Kargil, the official said. However, Drass in Kargil, the second coldest place in the world after Siberia, recorded a low of minus 13.0°C.
