Two killed, 10 injured as sumo vehicles falls into gorge near Digdol Ramban

Jammu : Two persons were killed and 12 others, four of them children, were injured when a sumo vehicle (passenger cab) they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a very deep gorge near Digdol along Jammu-Srinagar highway on Saturday.

 

Officials told INS that at about 1000hrs, a sumo vehicle bearing registration number Jk03 A 6391 while coming from Jammu to Banihal lost control and the vehicle fell into deep gorge at Samadhi Morh, Digdole, Ramban.

The injured passengers have been identified as:

1) Jameela d/o Fayaz r/o Neel age 7yrs
2) Nasir Khan s/o Arshad Khan r/o UP Hewa, age 19yrs
3) Aikra age 2.5yrs
4) Akya age 08yrs
5) Ara Bano d/o Fayaz r/o Neel age 04yrs
6) Soib Khan s/o Akhter age 18yrs
7) Sohil Khan s/o Irfan Khan r/o UP
8) Manzoor Ahmed s/o Bashir Ahmed r/o Neel age 28yrs (driver)
9) Mst Khaleda begum w/o Fayaz Ahmed r/o Neel age 35yrs
10) Arif s/o Akhter r/o UP age 22yrs
11) Ashu r/o UP age 35yrs
12) Usman s/o Akbar r/o UP age 19yrs

“Details of the dead persons are still awaited. Ms Khaleda and Ms Ashu have been referred to GMC Jammu as they are critical.
The details of the dead persons are:
1) Gulzar s/o Irfan r/o UP age 19yrs
2) Sameer s/o Tahir r/o UP age 24/25yrs, ” he said.

 

 

Official sources said the sumo vehicle (JKO3A-6391) was overloaded with 13 passengers on board it when it met with the accident. Soon after the accident, locals besides Quick Response Teams along police and army rushed to the spot and shifted the all 13 persons, some of them in critical condition, to local Sub District Hospital. However, one of them died before being admitted to hospital.

A police officer told GNS that a case has been registered. He said that condition of the some of the injured is stated to be serious.
