Bemina encounter: Killed militant identified, was assigned to carry out Fidayeen attack

Srinagar: The militant killed in a brief shootout at Bemina area of Central Kashmir’s Srinagar district on Thursday evening has been identified as Amir Riyaz of Khrew.

He was affiliated with the ‘Mujahdeen Gazwatul hind.

Quoting Inspector General of Police, the police tweeted that : “Terrorist killed in #Srinagar #Encounter identified as Aamir Riyaz of Khrew #Pulwama affiliated with proscribed terror outfit Mujahideen Gazwatul Hind.”

IGP said that the killed militant was relative of one of the accused of #LethporaTerrorAttack and was assigned to carry out fidayeen attack.

Earlier Kashmir police Zone on its official Twitter handle wrote, “Srinagar EncounterUpdate: 01 unidentified militant killed. 01 AK rifle alongwith ammunition recovered.”

Officials said that a joint team of Police and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Bemina.

Joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off an gunfight.
