In Pictures: Corona Curfew In Srinagar Parts

Normal life was affected in parts of Srinagar where authorities have imposed corona-curfew in a bid to stem the spread of coronavirus. The summer capital of the J&K accounted for more than 60 per cent of the total cases reported in Jammu and Kashmir recently.

Amid the surging cases, District Magistrate Srinagar Mohammad Aijaz Asad announced a 10-day “24-hour complete corona curfew with no movement of people, except for permissible activities,” in five Municipal wards of Lal Bazar, Hyderpora, Chanapora and two different pockets of Bemina.
In consonance with the decision, authorities erected barricades in interior lanes and by-lanes in most of these areas where shops other than dealing with essential commodities remained closed throughout the day. However public and private transport plied normally.
All shopping complexes, bazaars, saloons, barber shops, and restaurants are to remain closed as will all educational institutions. No gathering has been allowed except marriages with a ceiling of 20 people and funerals with 10 persons.
Out of the Of the 1,199 active coronavirus cases in Jammu and Kashmir till November 9, almost half of, 597, are in Srinagar district alone. This is the only district with which is reporting around 40-60 cases daily, around half of the daily cases in the whole J&K. On Monday the district again reported 59 out of total cases 138 in J&K.
Deputy commissioner Mohammad Aijaz said that there has been a steep rise in Covid positive cases in the district in the past 17 days and around 60% of the daily cases have been detected from a few particular areas. “Strict containment measures are also required in order to ensure safety of the public,” reads order announcing imposition of the curfew in an attempt to prevent the spread of the cases.
