One child killed, 8 others in accident involving make-shift rickshaw in Ramban

Jammu, Nov 8: A child was killed and eight others were injured when a makeshift motorcycle-rickshaw met with an accident at Kowbagh area of Ramban district on Monday afternoon.

Officials said that police received information athat at 1700 hours, a motorcycle-rickshaw driven by driver Rampaul of Punjab, carrying 8 children in the trailer, met with an accident.  A police party rushed to the spot and found child dead while rest of the injured were shifted to hospital.

Besides eight children, Rampal of Baladah Mansa ofPunjab A/P Kowbagh Ramban  was among the injured.

The child killed in the accident happens to be Rampal’s 6-year-old son identified Bhirbhan while two of the other injured include his son of Suraj Bhan (12) and Chameli (7). The other injured include Gulshan (6) and Zameerun (3), daughters of Salman of Zila Basti UP Salman, Chandni (9), Salma (12) and Sabana (12)  daughter of Mohammad Israr of Kowbagh Ramban. Condition of five children is stated to be critical and they have been referred to GMC Jammu for advanced treatment, they said. Preliminary investigation, a police officer said have revealed that driver was driving the rickshaw in a “rash and negligent” manner, losing control due to overspeeding.

Meanwhile deputy commissioner Ramban and SSP Ramban along with other officials visited the spot. Police have also registered a case, the officer added.
