Srinagar, Oct 15: Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar on Friday said militant who was “involved” in killing of a police officer, PSI Arshid Ahmad, near Khaniyar here has been killed in Bemina encounter.

“Killer of PSI Arshid killed in Bemina encounter: IGP Kashmir,” police said in a tweet.

The gunfight had started between militants and joint team of police and CRPF in Bemina area of Srinagar district a short while ago, police had said.

It said a joint team of Police and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Bemina.

As the joint team of forces encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight.

“Encounter has started at Bemina area of Srinagar. Srinagar Police  on the job. Further details shall follow,” police said in a tweet earlier.
