Extortion Case: Ashiq Salaam Mir’s Bail Rejected

Srinagar, Sep 8: Observing that police investigation in at infancy, a court in Baramulla has rejected bail plea of Ashiq Mir, one of the accused in extortionist case in which Imran Ahmad Ganai alias Shahid Imran, running social media page –Kashmir Crown—is the “main” accused.
Imran was arrest on August 27, a day after his associate Ashiq Mir was arrested in connection with the case—(FIR no.145) under IPC sections of 384 (extortion) and 506 (criminal intimidation) which was registered in police station Dangiwachi against the duo.
Judicial Magistrate Dangiwachi Baramulla Easar-ul-Nabi rejected the bail application of Ashiq Salaam Mir after hearing Akhtar Rasool, AAP for J&K, as well as Mir’s counsel advocate Hilal Ahmad.
“The accused has been working as a team member in the Kashmir Crown which has received money which is under scanner as per police investigation. The investigation is going on regarding funding generated through the medium of social media and its alleged misuse,” the court said. The bank transactions are also under scanner, the court observed. “The bank statements are being collected, complicity of other persons is being investigated, there is prima facie material that the accused is involved in the alleged conspiracy along with the main accused Shahid Imran and there is prima facie material that the complainant (woman) has been subjected to threats after she filed complaints against the accused persons,” the court said, adding, “Therefore taking into account the seriousness of the allegations, the stage of investigation, and circumstances, and keeping the interests of a fair and unimpeded investigation in mind, I am of the view that, at this stage, Accused Ashiq Salaam Mir cannot be said to deserve to be released on bail when investigation is at infancy.”
Meanwhile, police got a court order to change the custody of Shahid Imran in another case filed against him.
Allowing an application by SHO of police station Baramulla, Sub Judge Baramulla ordered shifting of the custody from FIR no. 145/2021 to FIR no. 194/2021.
“SHO police station Dangiwachi is directed to hand over the custody of accused Shahid Imran to SHO police station Baramulla for further investigation.”
