Jammu, Aug 11: A 28-year-old youth was “murdered” after being stabbed while asleep inside his house by unknown person(s) in Rajouri district, triggering off a protest by family members joined by relatives and neighbours on Wednesday.
The protesters staged a protest on Rajouri-Poonch highway, demanding those behind the incident be brought to justice.
Reports said that the unknown assailant(s) entered house of the youth, Ankush Kumar Sharma son of Bachaan Kumar Sharma, in Chakli village late last night and stabbed him to death as he was asleep at around 1 a.m. Family raised hue and cry after noticing the murder even as it was not immediately known if the assailant(s) fled before or after the family saw Ankush dead.
Soon a police party from Chatyar police post reached the spot and recovered “weapon of offense”. The police team also took the body into possession for medico-legal formalities. Confining the incident, a police officer said that investigations have been started. The “brutal murder” has send shock waves in the entire village, the locals said.
In the morning, family members of the youth joined by relatives and neighbours took to road near Chakli and blocked Rajouri-Poonch highway. Burning old vehicle tyres, the protesters demanded immediate action against those responsible for the “murder.” When this report was filed, the protest was going on even as higher officers from police and administration were trying to persuade the protesters to disperse to restore traffic on the busy thoroughfare.
