The order by Deputy Commissioner Baramulla comes days after similar directions by his counterparts of Anantnag and Ganderbal, barring the day-picnickers to Pahalgam, the famous tourist destination in South Kashmir, and Sonamarg, the gold meadow in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, respectively.

“No local day-picnickers shall be allowed to enter tourist destination Gulmarg on weekend days (Saturday & Sunday),” said Bhupinder Kumar, District Magistrate Baramulla, in an order. The order, he said, has been issued to contain the spread of COVID-19 disease at the tourist destination.

“Only Vaccinated persons or persons possessing Negative Test Report of RAT/RTPCR conducted within 48 hours shall be allowed to enter tourist destination Gulmarg,” he said, adding, “Only tourists who have pre booking of Hotels, Guest Houses, Huts etc. shall be allowed on weekend days (Saturday & Sunday).”

The deputy commissioner asked Enforcement squads to impose fine of Rs 1000 on person(s) found roaming without masks.
