Budgam, June 15: In the end, the man-eating leopardess has been captured. The animal, allegedly responsible for killing a 4-year-old girl around 12 days ago in Ompora area, was captured Tuesday morning inside the premises of DC office Budgam in the central Kashmir district, officials said.
Chief Wildlife Warden Kashmir, Rashid Naqash said the scat samples of the leopardess are being sent for DNA sampling to match with those already taken from the site where the minor girl from Ompora was mauled to death earlier this month.
The girl from Ompora Housing Colony was lifted by the leopard on June 3 from her residence. Her body parts were found the next day in the nearby forest nursery.
The DNA sampling of the scat samples will confirm with certainty if the leopardess was actually the one which killed the girl, officials said that for now the pug marks of the animal and the pattern of its movement indicate that it is the same big cat that killed the girl.
The leopardess has been taken to Dachigam where a veterinarian will carry out the necessary tests as per set protocol.
Pertinently, the district administration Budgam had deputed 100 personnel from Forest Department, Forest Protection Force and Wildlife Department to monitor and capture the animal.
