Delhi: The Indian Navy and Coast Guard have been involved in one of the biggest searches for 80 missing people in the Arabian sea after cyclone hit the region and a vessel carrying 700 men went adrift.
Indian express reported that at least 637 men have been rescued so far, while 80 are missing.
“The men are maintenance staff working on ONGC off-shore sites. Search operations will continue for three more days,” report said.
The report further said that Cyclone Tauktae claimed at least 13 lives and left a trail of destruction in Gujarat and Maharashtra, and parts of Karnataka and Goa.
“The storm made landfall in the Saurashtra region near Una in Gir Somnath district on Monday night, bringing along with it very strong winds and heavy rainfall that damaged nearly 16,500 houses and uprooted over 40,000 trees,” it said.
