Mumbai airport has been shut as Cyclone Tauktae – an ‘extremely severe cyclonic storm’ is moving fast and is expected to hit Gujarat this evening.
According to NDTV report cyclone is expected to make landfall in Gujarat’s Bhavnagar between 10 pm and 11 pm, with winds up to 165 km per hour. At 11.30 am it was 145 km west of Mumbai and moving at 15 km per hour.
The report said that around 25000 people have been evacuated from low lying areas of Porbandar and Mahuva areas in Gujarat’s Bhavnagar district.
The airport has been shut and operations have been halted by the airport authorities.
