Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Jaghmohan Malhotra passed away in New Delhi. He was 94.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah expressed grief his demise. Modi termed Jagmohan’s death as a “monumental loss for the nation.”
Jaghmohan, fifth Governor of erstwhile state took charges in early 1990s. His period marked outburst of a major armed conflict in Jammu and Kashmir and many massacres, still remembered today, took place.
He was sacked by the VP Singh government following the assassination of Mirwaiz Mohammad Farooq.
The cause of death was not immediately known.
