Mercury shows upward trend in Kashmir, MeT forecasts isolated light rain towards afternoon till May 5

Srinagar, April 29: The mercury in Kashmir has been showing an upward trend with the minimum temperature on Thursday rising above normal in all parts of the Valley, officials said.

A meteorological department official said that Srinagar recorded a low of 11.6°C against 10.2°C on the previous night. The temperature was 2.3°C above normal for this time of the season in the summer capital of J&K, he said.

Qazigund recorded a low of 8.6°C against previous night’s 7.7°C and it was above normal by 0.8°C in the gateway town of Kashmir, the official said.

Mercury settled at 5.7°C against 4.9°C on the previous night in Pahalgam. The temperature was above normal by 1.3°C during this time of the season in the famous tourist resort in South Kashmir, he said.

Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a low of 8.2°C against normal of 8.1°C and last night’s 7.6°C, the official said.

Kupwara recorded a low of 8.6°C against 5.5°C on the previous night which was above normal by 0.8°C for this time of the season in north Kashmir district, the official said.

Gulmarg, the world famous skiing resort in Baramulla district of north Kashmir, recorded a low of 6.4°C against 5.0°C on the previous night, the official said.  It was 2.2°C below normal in the resort, the official added.

The weatherman has forecast very light rain or thundershowers in Kashmir and Pirpanjal range towards afternoon till May 5.

“Isolated very light rain/thundershowers in Kashmir and Pirpanjal range towards late afternoon,” the MeT official said regarding the forecast till next Wednesday.
