Balkh: At least eight Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers are reported to have been killed in clashes with the Taliban in Balkh district in Balkh province on Wednesday night, Afghan officials said on Thursday.
District Governor, Balkh province, Mohammad Younus Stanekzai, said that the clashes began with a Taliban attack on a security outpost. “Six other soldiers were rescued this morning from the area after army special forces launched an operation.”
Tolo news quoted a security source saying that the clashes continued until Thursday afternoon and that the Taliban also suffered heavy casualties in the clashes but there is no exact information yet.”
The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.
In the meantime, the Afghan National Army’s 209 Shaheen Corps in a statement on Thursday said that seven Taliban were killed and eight others were wounded in an airstrike in Zarai district of Balkh on Wednesday.
