Kulgam, March 18: A few hours after an Assistant Sub Inspector of traffic police was killed in a hit-and-run case, police arrested a truck driver allegedly involved in the accident at Bonigam Qazigund area of Anantnag on Thursday.

“An information was received at Police Station Qazigund from reliable sources that SO traffic Bonigam ASI Mohammad Shafi Bhat son of Mohammad Ramzan Bhat of Nowgam Shangus Anantnag was hit by unknown truck driver at Bonigam, resulting in his on the spot death. The driver of the truck fled away from spot along with vehicle,” a police official said.

“On the information, a case FIR No. 51/2021 U/S 304 IPC got registered at police station Qazigund. On this special police teams were constituted. The team led by SHO Qazigund  Inspector Irshad Reshi  after hectic efforts arrested the accused driver of the vehicle namely Javid Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Nabi Bhat of Sangrama Sopore from Choimulla area,” the official said, adding, “the vehicle bearing Registration number JK22B-4365 was also recovered and seized.”
