Srinagar, Feb 3: Traffic authorities on Wednesday urged commuters to avoid journey on Jammu-Srinagar highway, the only surface link connecting Kashmir Valley with the outside world, in wake of the weather forecast. The authorities also modified its earlier order which had called for closing the highway for four consecutive Thursdays in February. Instead, four Fridays falling on February 5, 22, 19 and 26 shall be dry days for maintenance and repair works of the thoroughfare.  “In view of inclement weather prediction issued by MeT department in J&K for next 24 hours, there are chances of blockade of highway. People are advised to avoid journey,” a traffic department official said. However, he said that subject to fair weather and better road condition, only one-way traffic shall be allowed from Jammu towards Srinagar including Ramban-Banihal (local traffic) on the thoroughfare. “No vehicle including fresh perishables shall be allowed in the opposite direction.”
