Srinagar, Jan 24: Police on Saturday solved a hit and run case by arresting a man from Nowgam area of Srinagar.
On January 17, about 1400 hours, Police Station Shergarhi received information that a Santro vehicle hit a person, Junaid Ahmad Dar (26) son of Abdul Hamid Dar of Asnoor Kulgam, near deaf and dumb School Solina. Junaid was shifted to SMHS hospital in critical condition where he succumbed to the wounds on January 23.
Police had filed a case under FIR (78/20) under section 337, 279 IPC. Later section 304-A of IPC was added after the injured person succumbed to his wounds.
“During investigation the available CCTV footage along the road from Jahangir Chowk to Rambagh were obtained and thoroughly analyzed and during analysis of CCTVs footage, as per the date and time one suspicious white color santro vehicle with DL number (digits not clearly visible) was spotted and hunt for the vehicle was started and wide coverage was also given on all media platforms,” a police spokesperson said.
“During investigation, nearly five such vehicles were also detained and verified at police station based on technical analysis. The RTO offices of New Delhi for various such DL vehicles and registered service centers of Hyundai based in Delhi and Kashmir were contacted at length for tracing out this vehicle,” he said, adding, “It was found that this vehicle was serviced at Samara Hyundai New Delhi in year 2008 and the vehicle was then brought to Kashmir and sold to different owners. In the meantime human surveillance was also mounted in the area to look for any such suspicious vehicle and the investigating team after putting strenuous efforts, finally zeroed in one accused namely Mushtaq Ahmad Dar
Son of M Assadullah Dar of Hardashoora A/P Faizan Colony Naiyak, Bagh Nowgam.” On being put to thorough questioning, the spokesman said that Dar confessed his involvement in the commission of the crime. “Involved vehicle was also recovered and has been corroborated with the technical evidences collected in the case.” The accused has been arrested in the case along with his White Santro Car, he said.
“Srinagar Police want to put on record the gratitude for all those members of the society, who helped Police by providing them all sort of assistance during investigation in nabbing the accused and the vehicle wanted in the said crime,” he added.
