Srinagar, Dec 26: One militant has been killed while two army soldiers were injured in an overnight gunfight in Kanigam village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district, officials said on Saturday.
A senior Police officer said that one militant has been killed the gunfight and the body has been recovered. However, he said, identity of the slain militant was yet to be ascertained.
Officer said that the operation was suspended late at night due to darkness and resumed this morning.
Two army soldiers were also injured as militants tried to break the cordon.
Earlier, a joint team of Police, Army’s 44 RR and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Kanigam amid specific inputs about the presence of the militants.
As the joint team approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off the gunfight
