Srinagar, Oct 19: Two militants were killed in an overnight gunfight with government forces in Melhura area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district, officials said on Tuesday.
They said that a joint team of Police and army’s 55RR launched a cordon and search operation in the village amid reports about the presence of the militants last evening.
As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, they said, the hiding militants fired upon the joint team, triggering off a gunfight in which two militants were killed. However the identity and the group affiliation of the slain were yet to be ascertained, they said. “Searches are going on in the area.”
