Srinagar, June 11: Three militant associates were arrested and Rs 1.33 crores besides 21 kilograms of heroin were recovered from them in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, police said on Thursday.
Addressing reporters, top police officers of Handwara identified the arrested as Abdul Moomin Peer , Islam-ul-Haq Peer, both residents of Waskura Handwara and Syed Iftikhar Indrabi of Laribal Rajwar Handwara.
“Incriminating materials, including Rs.1.34 crores hard cash and 21kg heroine (worth Rs 100 Cr. Market value) and one cash counting machine were recovered from their possession.”
They said the other absconded persons have been identified and efforts are being taken to arrest them.
“The module was in close connection with Pakistan based handlers and was involved in drug trade & assisting financially to active (militants) of LeT out. The recoveries also exposed the inter connection between drug dealers and militants,” they said.
A Case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Handwara and investigation has been taken up. “A special investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to ascertain the details of ties of the accused with militant outfits, radicals, smugglers and other anti national elements,” they added.
