Srinagar: The Government Tuesday informed that 15 new positive cases of novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), 01 from Jammu division and 14 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 741.
According to the daily Media Bulletin on novel coronavirus (Covid-19), out of 741 positive cases, 413 are Active Positive, 320 have recovered and 08 have died.
Professor Farooq Ahmad Jan, Medical Superintendent of SKIMS Soura said that nine out of 898 samples, processed at Viral Diagnostic Lab of the hospital, returned positive for the novel coronavirus and include six from Shopian, two from Bandipora and one from Baramulla.
Similarly, Nodal Officer Dr Saleem Khan said, five tested positive at CD hospital and include a 34-old woman and her two daughters—one of the 7-year-old old and other 13-year-old from Wander Mohalla of Rainawari Srinagar. The capital city also reported one more case—a corporator at SMC, a resident of Narwara Srinagar while the fifth person whose samples returned positive at CD lab is a 30-year-old woman from Telwani area of Annatnag district.
The development has prompted Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) to move around a dozen corporators as well as staff associated with Mayor and his deputy to quarantine.
Nodal Officer Dr Saleem Khan confirmed that the corporator has tested positive for the pathogen.
Commissioner, SMC, Gazanfar Ali said that the corporators and the Mayor and deputy mayor’s staff was moved quarantine soon after reports were received.
The brother of the Corporator after arriving in the Valley from outside J&K had concealed his travel history and was living with his family.
After neighbours informed district administration Srinagar about him, was put in quarantine on April 28 and tested positive on Friday last. Regarding Shopian cases, they said, 55-year-old male from Manzinpora while five others are from Heerpora, one of the worst-hit areas in the southern Kashmir district and include 18-year-old and 35-year-old women and three men—one of them a teenager (18) while two others are 25-year-old and 50-year-old respectively.
Bandipora reported two fresh cases—one of them a 6-year-old boy from Naidkhai and other 41-year-old man from Gund Kaiser while Baramulla’s only case is said to be a 22-year-old female from Nowpora Sopore.
Jammu’s division’s Udhampur district also reported a fresh case, taking its tally of positive cases to 21.
Providing district-wise breakup, the Bulletin said that Bandipora has 132 positive cases including 02 reported today with 69 Active Positive, 62 recovered (including 01 recovered today), 01 died; Anantnag district has 110 positive cases (including 1 case reported today) with 108 Active Positive, 01 recovered, 01 died; Srinagar has reported 04 new cases today taking total to 113 positive cases with 36 Active Positive, 75 recovered, 02 died; Baramulla reported 01 case today taking total to 104 positive cases with 59 Active Positive, 42 recovered ( including 03 recoveries today), 03 died; with 06 fresh cases today, Shopian has 89 positive, 64 Active Positive, 25 recovered ( including 06 recoveries today), Kupwara has 66 positive cases with 36 Active Positive, 30 recovered ( including 07 recoveries today), Budgam has 30 positive cases with 18 Active Positive and 12 recovered cases; Ganderbal has 14 positive cases and all of them have recovered; Kulgam has 11 positive cases with 08 Active Positive and 03 recoveries; Pulwama has 09 positive cases with 06 active positive, 03 recovered.
Similarly, Jammu has 27 positive cases with 1 active positive case reported today and 26 have recovered; Udhampur reported 1 case today making a total of 21 positive cases with 01 active positive case, 19 recovered and 01 died, while as Samba has 07 positive cases wherein 03 are Active Positive and 04 have recovered; Rajouri has 04 positive cases, 01 active positive and 03 have recovered; Kathua has 01 positive case who is active positive; Kishtwar had only 01 positive case who has recovered while Ramban and Reasi districts have 01 positive case each which are active positive
The Bulletin said that the breakup represents districts from which the patients have been traced or are ordinarily residing.
Advisory urged people not to step out of home, unless absolutely necessary. “If you have to move out for unavoidable reasons, ensure that you wear a mask and practice social distancing, personal hygiene and frequent handwashing.”
Public has also been advised to strictly follow the advisories issued by the Government from time to time.
Furthermore, the people have been urged upon to rely only on the information released by the government through the daily media bulletin to print & electronic media. People are advised to refrain from spreading rumours and pay no heed to them at the same time.
