B R Sharma Appointed J&K PSC Chairman For 2 Years

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Government on Monday appointed Braj Raj Sharma, former Chairman of Staff Selection Commission (SSC) and ex-Chief Secretary of erstwhile J&K, as chairman of the J&K Public Service Commission.
“In exercise of powers conferred by Section 93 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019, and S.O. 3937 (E) dated 31st October, 2019, read with Order issued in terms of sub¬clause (i) of clause (c) of the Proclamation issued by the President dated 31st October, 2019, the Lieutenant Governor of Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir is pleased to appoint Mr B. R. Sharma, IAS (Retd.), as Chairman, Public Service Commission for the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir,” reads an order issued here.
“He shall hold the position of the Chairman, Public Service Commission, till he attains the age of sixty-two years”. Sharma retired as chairman SSC last month.
Sharma joined Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in the year 1984 and was allotted Jammu & Kashmir Cadre. He is a Post-Graduate in Political Science from the University of Jammu, J&K and MBA from Australian National University, Australia.
In the course of his 35 years career in Administrative Service, he has served the State and the Central Government in various capacities. He has worked as Chief Secretary, J&K before coming to Government of India on deputation.
He joined Ministry of Home Affairs as Additional Secretary (Police) on 18th May, 2017 and was thereafter promoted and posted as Secretary (Border Management).
Sharma is the recipient of Jammu & Kashmir State Government’s Gold Medal for Excellence in Public Service (2011) and Prime Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Public Service (2012).
