Srinagar: Two militants were killed in a gunfight with a joint team of police, CRPF and army at Dangerpora area of Pulwama in south Kashmir on Saturday.
The authorities have suspended the only 2G internet service in the district. Several civilians besides a policeman received minor injuries during clashes which ensued near the encounter site.
A senior police officer said that the bodies of the militants were recovered from under the debris of the houses razed to rubble during the gunfight. Some arms and ammunition and other “incriminating material” have been recovered, he said.
“In this connection, a case under relevant sections of law was registered and further investigations were taken up,” he said. He said that the identity and the group affiliation of the killed militants are being ascertained.
The officer said that the searches are going on at the ginfight site as police suspect the presence of one more body.
The gunfight broke out soon after the joint team of army’s 55 RR, SOG and CRPF 182 bn, 183 bn launched a cordon-and-search operation in the village on wee hours following inputs about the presence of the militants.
