Officer Among 4 SSB Men, Cop Injured In Nowhatta Grenade Blast; Man Injured In Handwara

Srinagar: Four SSB personnel including an officer besides a policeman were injured on Wednesday evening in a grenade attack in Nowhatta area of Srinagar, officials said.
Officials that suspected militants hurled a grenade towards police personnel near central Jamia Masjid in Nowhatta area of downtown here at around 9: 30 P.M., resulting in injuries to four SSB troopers and policeman. “Today at about 2125hrs (militants) lobbed a grenade at Nowhatta Chowk Srinagar towards joint Naka of Police and Security forces, resulting in injuries to four security force personnel and one police personnel,” apolice spokesman said. Senior Police officers reached the crime spot.
He said a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Nowhatta and investigation taken up. “Search in the area is in progress.” Three among the SSB personnel have been identified as Sub-Inspector Anurag Roa, Head Constable Sananta Kumar and Constable Dugesh while policeman has been identified as Constable Abdul Majed.
Officials said that all the injured have sustained leg injuries and have been shifted to Police Control Room (PCR) hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, suspected militants shot at a 38-year-old man in Beighpora area of Kralgund Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
A police officer said that the suspected militants barged inside the house of Ali Mohammad Beigh (38) son of Habibullah Beigh at around 8:20 pm and fired upon him.
Ali Mohammad suffered serious bullet wounds and was shifted to a nearby primary health center from where he was referred to district hospital Handwara in critical conditions.
Soon after the incident, the officer said a joint team of police, SOG and army launched searches to nab the assailants.
