Jammu: National Conference on Tuesday welcomed the release of the party Vice President and former Chief Minister and Omar Abdullah, stating that this will go a long way in filling up the political vaccum and strengthening democracy in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a joint statement issued here this afternoon, the senior party leaders said the entire rank and file is enthused over the development, hoping that all other mainstream leaders and activists would be released soon.
They said National Conference has always been a strong votary of civil liberties, democracy and secularism, adding that the release of Mr Abdullah will pave the way for reinitiating genuine political activity so that democracy gets further strengthened in Jammu & Kashmir.
The National Conference leaders exuded confidence that under the dynamic leadership of Dr Farooq Abdullah and Mr Omar Abdullah, the party will continue to to play its huge and designated role of strengthening the bind of amity and unity between different segments of people. This is important to steer J&K to peace, as envisioned by the towering leaders like Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, who all his life strived for promoting democracy and secularism.
