Srinagar: A young woman on Tuesday succumbed to burn injuries at SMHS hospital here, a week after she allegedly set herself ablaze in Qazigund area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
The woman (name withheld) was at her in-laws house in Nageenpora Kund when she set ablaze herself on March 17, official sources said. The woman was taken to SHMS hospital here whether succumbed to the severe burn injuries on Tuesday morning.
A police officer said that she had suffered 60% burn injuries and an FIR (05/2020) under IPC section of 309 was registered on March 17 when the incident happened. “We are investigating as to what led her take such an extreme step and if it turns out that anyone has abetted the suicide, he or she would be taken to task,” the police officer said, adding, “Now that the woman has succumbed to the injuries, more IPC sections will be added to the FIR already registered in connection with the incident.”
