SRINAGAR: The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan today chaired a high-level meeting to review arrangements put in place by divisional administration for smooth celebration of Republic Day functions across the valley.

The meeting was informed that 15 contingents of J&K Police, Armed Police, IRP, BSF, NCC, CRPF, SDRF, Forest Protection Force and School Children will take part in March past. The band contingent will comprise of Police, Armed Police, BSF, NCC, CRPF and Sainik School.

The main function will be held in Srinagar, the Divisional Commissioner directed R&B authorities to initiate repair work in and around the venue on war footing.

He directed the SMC to ensure cleanliness in and around the venue, besides, installation of mobile toilets, de-watering pumps and availability of sucker machines at the venue.

To combat any eventuality of snowfall, Mechanical Engineering Department (MED) was asked to place snow clearance machines outside the venue and SMC was asked to deploy dedicated man power for manual snow clearance inside the stadium and rehearsal locations.

Power department was asked to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply with backup facility of Gensets at the venue and rehearsal locations. The department will also ensure illumination in and around the main venue and other government offices buildings.

Public Health Engineering Department was directed to ensure availability of drinking water at the venue through storage tanks at identified places.

Setting up of medical camps and availability of critical care ambulance with doctors, para medical staff and medicines will be ensured by Health Services Department.

SRTC authorities were asked to ensure arrangement and accessibility of buses for ferrying participating school children. Boarding and lodging of participants will be made by hospitality and Protocol Department and Youth Services and sports.

The Deputy Commissioners briefed the meeting regarding the fool proof arrangements put in place at district headquarters. New event on “Back to Village” and NAFED scheme will be incorporated in the Republic Day function at Baramulla District.   

The Divisional Commissioner stressed DCs to incorporate more items in the National function and it shall be celebrated in a more colourful manner with elegance. The DCs will also ensure participation of Panchs, Sarpanchs, Councilors, Prominent persons, civil society members, youth clubs, government employees and general public in the event. Meritorious students and famous players will be felicitated on the day.

He impressed upon civil and police administration to put all efforts for successful conduct of the event.

Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal, Additional Commissioner Kashmir Bilal Ahmad Bhat, Directors of Health & Floriculture, SSPs of Security & Taffic, Principal GMC, Chief Engineer MED, Joint Commissioner SMC, Commandants of CRPF & BSF, Superintending Engineers of Power & PHE, senior officers of Police, Doordarshan & Radio and other concerned officers were present in the meeting while Deputy Commissioners of other districts participated the meeting through video conferencing.
